Did I mention that we love to snorkel? We took a few "expeditions" in a little outrigger on Bora Bora where they took us snorkeling, including a shark feeding and sting-ray feeding. The picture above (my favorite of all my underwater pictures . . . so far), as well as all of the other underwater pictures were taken with my little Canon Sure Shot A1. I used Kodak MAX (ASA 400) print film. Here are some more Bora Bora snorkeling pictures:

Here's a picture of a sting-ray . . . um, the thing in the lower right part of the picture. I know, you really can't tell that it's a sting-ray, but I'm sure you can tell that the creature swimming above it is Phyllis. Would you believe she had its tail in her left hand? No? Good; I wouldn't believe it either. Actually the sting-rays are rather tame, and you can (and we did) touch them.

Our guide ushered us back into the boat when some sharks that he didn't know personally showed up.

Feeding the Sting-Rays

  Come and Get It!

How would you like to see this guy swimming toward you? I thought back to our guide's answer in repsonse to, "Did any of your tourists ever get bitten during the shark feeding?" "Maybe today," he said with a smile.

These are Black-Tipped Sharks and probably run about 3 to 6 feet long. The guide said they're rather timid, and in fact, as soon as I moved my hands (desperately trying to get away), he zipped off in another direction.

The guide instructed us all to stay on the "other" side of the anchor rope from where he was feeding the sharks. Unfortunately, he neglected to tell the sharks to stay on their side.

Phyllis: "I'm staying on my side of the rope."

Sharks: "Rope? What's a rope?"

"Sharks??!!! There were sharks??!!!"

(They should fill these with Tequila.)
